Olbia · Costa Smeralda

Walk into town,
the garden is yours.

Apartment with a private entrance and private garden, on a quiet street in Olbia. The town centre is twenty minutes away on foot, the first beaches a quarter of an hour by car, and you park outside the house for free.

chapter one The house

A single-storey home,
on a street with no traffic.

House Relax is an apartment on Via Sanzio, in the Santa Maria district, inside a small building of only three apartments: each one has its own entrance, and nobody walks past your home to reach theirs. Everything is on one level. There is the living room, the separate kitchen, the double bedroom, the bathroom with shower, and outside the private garden. It sleeps four, with the double bed and the sofa bed in the living room.

The street is residential and no traffic comes through. The main street of Olbia is a kilometre and a half away: three minutes by car, about twenty on foot, as several guests say in their reviews. The airport is a quarter of an hour away, the port six minutes. The nearest beaches, Mare e Rocce and Pittulongu, are also a quarter of an hour by car, and you leave the car in the street outside the entrance without paying a thing.

The kitchen is equipped for real cooking: oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, crockery and cutlery. Then a washing machine, an iron, independent air conditioning, heating, free Wi-Fi, a TV. For those travelling with children there are a high chair, a travel cot, small tableware, books and toys. Bed linen and extra pillows and blankets are already here. Long stays are allowed, and you can leave your luggage.

chapter three The stay

Four things guests keep repeating.

Out of the 145 reviews left by people who have slept here, four things come up more often than anything else. They are not the ones that usually end up in the shop window: the quiet of a side street, a free parking space, the right distance from two opposite places, a patch of green with a table outside. Four small details, and every one of them comes up in the public reviews.

  • i.A street nobody drives down. The area is residential and free of traffic: the house does not face a main road and the small building holds three flats, not dozens. In the reviews the word that keeps coming back is “quiet”, and it is written by people who came in August too. The windows have blackout shutters, useful if you like to sleep past sunrise.
  • ii.Free parking right outside the door. You leave the car in the street, in front of the entrance: no parking disc, no charges, no driving around for twenty minutes with the bags still in the boot. A review from July says there was always a space free outside the house, and in a seaside town in July that counts for far more than it looks on paper.
  • iii.Halfway between the town centre and the beaches. The centre is 1.8 km away: three minutes by car, about twenty on foot, for the shopping, dinner out or a walk in the evening. The beaches lie in the opposite direction: Mare e Rocce and Pittulongu a quarter of an hour away, Lido del Sole and Le Saline around twenty minutes, Porto Istana a little further. Neither one forces you to move base.
  • iv.The garden is yours alone. The garden is private, for the sole use of the flat: you open the door and you are already outside, with no communal space to share with anyone else. Guests who have stayed here use it above all in the evening, to eat outdoors or for a drink before going out. During the day it takes the swimming costumes hung out to dry, the cool boxes and the children playing in the open air.

★★★★★

A really positive stay. The house is lovely, spotlessly clean and has every comfort. The bedroom is very spacious, with an extremely comfortable XXL bed. The shower is large and works well. The kitchen also has a washing machine and a dishwasher. Piero was very kind and gave us plenty of useful tips on restaurants and beaches to visit. Host and flat both thoroughly recommended!

Our stay in Olbia was wonderful. Piero's place is welcoming and roomy, and it gave us the perfect base for exploring the beautiful beaches of the Costa Smeralda. Piero was always helpful and kind. He even lent us two beach umbrellas. We would happily come back!

The flat is in a handy spot for visiting the main beaches of the Costa Smeralda and the beaches south of Olbia, around San Teodoro, just 30-40 minutes by car. It has everything you need, air conditioning included, and there is always parking right outside the house!

Piero's little house in Olbia lived up to our expectations. It is very handily placed for reaching all the finest beaches in Sardinia (we had a car). When we arrived the house was tidy and spotlessly clean. The small veranda outside was ideal for drinks before dinner. We hope to come back next year.

A large, roomy flat. Before we arrived Piero sent instructions for getting into the house, a list of restaurants and supermarkets near the flat and a detailed list of beaches, from the closest ones to those dotted around further afield. A great stay. Highly recommended

Questions

The answers, all in one place.

How many beds are there and how are they arranged?

The flat sleeps up to 4, with a standard occupancy of 2. There is a double bedroom with a large bed and, in the living room, a sofa bed meant for children or teenagers, plus two sofas. There is one bathroom, with a shower. The whole house is on one level, with no internal stairs, and it has its own private entrance. If you are four adults, write to us before booking: we will tell you honestly whether the flat suits your group, and it is better to know now than on your first evening.

Is the kitchen well equipped? What appliances are there?

The kitchen is separate from the living room and you can genuinely cook in it. There are hobs, an oven, a microwave, a fridge, a dishwasher, crockery and cutlery, plus tableware for children. The house also has a washing machine, an iron, a hairdryer and independent air conditioning, which doubles as heating in the cooler months. Wi-Fi is free. Long stays are allowed, and guests who stay a few weeks usually do their shopping in town and use the kitchen just as they would at home. If you need a particular appliance, ask us before you arrive.

Is bed linen included?

Bed linen is provided, along with extra pillows and blankets for anyone who feels the cold or sleeps on the sofa bed. The bathroom has hot water, a bidet and a hairdryer. If you would like to know exactly what you will find on arrival, towels included, or you need an extra change because you are staying a while, write to us before booking: we will confirm it in writing along with the rest of the terms. For children there is a travel cot, a high chair and their own tableware.

Is the garden private or shared?

It is private and reserved for the flat: you step out of your own door and you are already outside, with no indoor spaces shared with anyone else. The building holds three flats in all, each with its own separate entrance, and the street around it is quiet. Guests tend to use the garden in the evening, for dinner outdoors or a drink on the way back from the sea, and in the morning for breakfast. There is no swimming pool. The garden is also handy for drying towels and swimming costumes after the beach.

Where do you park? Is there a charge for the parking space?

You park on the street in front of the house, freely and without paying anything: no tolls, no hourly charges. The area is residential and free of traffic, so you will not have to drive around looking for a space. It is one of the reasons why people who come to Sardinia with their own car or a hire car get on well here: the car stays a few steps from the door and in the morning you set off for the sea without any manoeuvring. If you are travelling in a camper van or a long vehicle, let us know beforehand and we will tell you how best to sort it.

What time are check-in and check-out?

Check-in is between 15:00 and 21:00, check-out by 10:00. Before you arrive you will receive written instructions for getting in and a way to let us know when you are close by. If your flight or ferry gets you into Olbia outside that window, write to us in advance: a different time can be arranged, but it has to be agreed beforehand and not at the last minute. On arrival we need an identity document for every guest, because the details have to be passed on as Italian law requires of all accommodation providers.
